Every Github account has an Owner who serves as the default primary contact and has all user permissions. If you’re an account Owner or Admin, you can transfer account ownership to any other user who has access to the account.

In this article, you’ll learn how to transfer ownership of your account.

Login Github account and go to that’s the repository.

If you are the owner of this repository, then you would see the Settings option in the top menu. Click on the Settings.

You will see these sections

In this section, if you go to the bottom, then you will see this Danger Zone in the red box.

After clicking on Transfer, you will see a popup for new Owner details.

After fill Username or organization name, downside it will confirm repo then click on I understand, transfer this repository.

After clicked, Github would confirm the password for verification.

Finally, will see this notification on top of your account.

You can abort the transfer until the new owner wouldn’t accept the request.

The new owner finds mail like this.

When clicking on the email’s link you will see this notification on top of the new owner’s account.

Finally, this user is the owner of this repo and it has removed from an old account.
